Savings Housing Benefit accounts

The tenant becomes a member of WCCU and opens a rent account in their name. The local authority sends Housing Benefit to the tenant’s account every two weeks. WCCU then sends the Housing Benefit directly to the landlord every four weeks for a £5.00 charge to the landlord. The whole process is a lot easier than applying for direct payment with a local authority.

If you’re a landlord and believe your tenant may be struggling to pay the rent, put them in touch with WCCU to set up a Housing Benefit Account.

If you’re a tenant, discuss with your landlord having your rent paid through the WCCU Housing Benefit Account.

Once the landlord and tenant have agreed to set up an account:

  • The tenant completes the Membership Form 2016 and signs it at a branch of WCCU
  • The tenant completes the rent account Tenant Form and signs it at the credit union
  • Then the landlord completes the Landlord form.
  • Both tenant and landlord read and make sure they understand the Terms and Conditions of the account.
  • Then the tenant provides tenancy agreement for their new property and a form of personal ID - valid passport or valid driving licence or a recent benefits letter of no more than six months old

Finally, once the tenant has provided all the correct documents, we will give them a letter to take to the Housing Benefit section at the Civic Centre. This letter instructs the council to start paying the Housing Benefit into the WCCU account.
